Elchin Afandiyev - playwright
Elchin is one of the most eminent exponents of contemporary Azerbaijani writing and critics today describe him as one of its living classics. His first novel was published at the age of 16 and his subsequent writing encompasses a broad field, ranging from Azerbaijani folklore and classical Eastern literature to the works of Shakespeare and Moliere. He has since had over 100 books translated into more than 20 languages, which have sold millions copies worldwide. He currently holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Matthew Gould - director
Matthew has been directing for a number of years focusing on New Writing and Musical Theatre. The last couple of years have seen him direct plays on the London Fringe at venues including The King's Head, The Old Red Lion. In the Midlands he has had plays at various theatres and festivals winning the People's Choice Award for the Preston Fringe Festival with the new play Baby Jesus Freak by Ian Winterton. Most recently he directed and choreographed the first major revival of the musical “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” at the Arts Theatre, London. He directed a new opera The Miller’s Wife by Mike Christie at the end of 2012 and is currently directing a revival concert series of The Secret Garden.
